Awasa3 Project HOPEFUL’s direct care efforts in Awassa, Ethiopia are focused on vulnerable children and their families. Our goal is to keep families together and ensure access to education for their children, and to help families achieve financial independence through vocational training and initial financial support.

We work in Awassa and the surrounding areas in the Sidama region of Ethiopia to provide for the basic needs of children and families. We also partner with and support an orphanage in Awassa City that cares for children while local adoptive families are sought.

Sponsoring families or individuals agree to “stand in the gap” for the child that they sponsor by praying for them and their family regularly and providing $30 per month to sponsor the child. Depending on where and how a family lives, assistance is tailored to their specific needs and includes food, education, clothing, access to medical support and spiritual support.

Our initiatives under Project HOPEFUL Awassa include:
-Family In the Gap community sponsorship
-Support of an orphanage as they look for local foster/ adoptive families for children and reunify when possible.
-Enabling Independence Program that funds women’s businesses
-Funding clean water projects across the Sidama region
-Providing malaria nets with training
-Gifting of cows and goats
-Gifting of Bibles in local language

We are actively looking for businesses and churches to partner with Project HOPEFUL to support the efforts in and around Awassa and to help catalyze grass roots business in the area. If this is something you are interested, please contact us at
