When we went to pick up our daughter in Uganda, we found out during a routine medical exam that she was HIV positive. We weret totally unprepared for this news and literally didn't know where to turn. A friend in the States put us in touch with Project HOPEFUL that very day and I was on the phone with Carolyn that night. First and most importantly, Project HOPEFUL educated us on HIV and put our minds at ease that we were not alone and they would walk with us on our journey. It is so comforting to know that there are others out there who have walked this path before and that they are willing to do whatever it takes to help. The process of bringing home a child with HIV can be pretty overwhelming as we were not only dealing with the emotional roller coaster ride, but also the specific immigration waiver and paperwork required. I'm so thankful that we didn't have to "go it alone." Project HOPEFUL walked us through every step of the journey (and continue to do so.) We were told originally that it could take as much as 6 months to get our little Josie home, but thanks to McLane Layton of Equality for Adopted Children and Carolyn, our paperwork was expedited and we were able to bring Josie home in a matter of weeks instead of months. Every time we felt there was a major hurdle to getting Josie home, Project HOPEFUL was there... easing our fears and walking us through the next step. We are so thankful that God connected us with Project HOPEFUL, Carolyn, and McLane. We are forever grateful for your love for the "least of these."
