HOPE+ Sisterhood (Families Intact)

We have a specific focus on the challenges of single, widowed and abandoned mothers.  The majority of our Hope + Sisterhood mothers in Guatemala are impacted by the HIV virus and many are also very poor and subject to extreme abuses. For example, because of severe poverty, women in Guatemala are trafficked for prostitution at a young age, leaving them vulnerable to serious abuse and disease, including HIV. This cycle of poverty and violence often repeats itself in the lives of their children absent intervention. Our Hope + Sisterhood seeks to address malnutrition, sexual abuse, and disease. We seek to provide our Guatemalan sisters with the following but without limitations

According to a recent report by UNICEF. Ukraine is the worst affected by the spread of HIV in all of Europe.  80% of all infected people are young.  The recent sharp increase in infections in vulnerable groups and in young women in particular suggests that the coming years will be decisive for addressing the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Ukraine.

Project HOPEFUL seeks your help to address this need.  With the cooperation of Okmadet Hospital in Kyiv and the active supervision of Jim and Marianna Piepon of Ukraine Medical Outreach, the FIG Ukraine program was created.

Project HOPEFUL FIG Ukraine has a mentor on staff to meet with newly diagnosed mothers. She, herself, is a mother who received her positive diagnosis at her daughter’s birth, and she has struggled, but is raising her positive daughter. She recognizes the difference a mentor would have made in her life as she learned to live with her diagnosis, and she tirelessly works to share truth and hope through in-person visits, bi-monthly group meetings, and round-the-clock phone availability.
